Central Park Elementary School Discipline Plan

Our Philosophy Statement:
We believe in providing a safe, nurturing and physically comfortable learning environment for all. In order to promote and maintain a positive school environment, children are taught the responsibilities of self-discipline. A representative committee of administrators, teacher, and parents developed the following guidelines.

Physical Expectations
1. I will use safe, nonviolent actions at all times. (No roughhousing, shoving, pushing or spitting. Keep hands and feet to one's self.)
2. I will not be a part of a fight, real or play.
3. I will not touch others inappropriately.
4. I will walk in the halls quietly.

Language Expectations
1. I will use polite and appropriate language at all times. (No profanity, racial or gender slurs, verbal threats or inappropriate outbursts.)
2. I will not participate in teasing, bullying, put-downs, and name-calling.
3. I will not talk loud in the lunchroom.

Respect Expectations
1. I will speak and act respectfully to others. (No inappropriate gestures or back-talk.)
2. I will show respect for personal and school property. (No stealing, vandalism, or defacing property.)
3. I will show respect to others and myself.
4. I will show respect to my teachers and other adults in the school. (No willful disobedience with any adult in our school.)There is a Zero Tolerance policy on violence, drugs / alcohol, harassment and weapons in the school district. We will follow District procedures concerning these issues.

The following behaviors will result in automatic out-of-school suspension:
1. Fighting or assaulting behaviors
2. Drugs or alcohol
3. Racial / gender slurs
4. Profanity directed at an adult
5. Guns or weapons (including toy guns)
6. Threats or intimidation
7. Stealing
8. Sexual harassment
9. Defiance of a School Board Employee (talking back)

Behavior Referral Plan
Each classroom teacher should utilize his or her own behavior management plans within his or her classroom. When a child exhausts the options within a teacher's plan, the child will enter the Central Park school wide behavior plan described below. In the event that a child's behavior is extremely disruptive, the teacher may choose to move a child into the Central Park school wide behavior plan and bypass their usual management system.

The following four-step plan will be followed should a child receive a discipline write-up for the above behaviors:
Referral 1:
A discipline report will be filed.
A copy will be given to the office and sent home for parent signature.
The classroom teacher will be given a copy.
The teacher will call parents.
An apology will be given.

Referral 2:

A copy will be given to the office and sent home for parent signature.
The classroom teacher will be given a copy.
The principal will call the parents.
Student will serve two hours / two days in after school detention or after school work detail.
An apology will be given.

Referral 3:

A discipline report will be filed.
A copy will be given to the office and sent home for parent signature.
The classroom teacher will be given a copy.
The principal will call the parents.
Student will serve four hours / four days in after school detention or after school work detail.
Parents and child will have a conference with the Intervention Team.
An apology will be given.

Referral 4:
Student will be given an out-of-school suspension.
Parents and child will have a conference with the Intervention Team before the child returns to school.
A behavior contract will be developed and signed before the child returns to school.
An apology will be given.

Repeat offenses will result in the student repeating step four and / or any additional terms written in the behavior contract.Recommendations for a class III suspension to the Hearing Officer may be made for children suspended for the third time or following a single severe incident.
